Cultural gender crisis: Masulinity vs Femininity
Good morning everyone! It's JohnnyBloggyBoy and today we will explore what it means to be masculine and what it means to be feminine.
Please do not get me wrong, you can already erase the image of me as Andrew Tate preaching to poor teenagers how to be super macho masculine man and how a decent feminine women should behave. (picture that might'ev appeared in you mind for reference)
No, we'll be talking about yet another component of Hofstede's model mainly the Masculinity Index, the index that describes the distance and the roles of a man and a women in the society and relationships. Quoting the legend himself, Hofstede describes it as following:
"In a masculine society, men are supposed to be tough. Men are supposed
to be from Mars, women from Venus. Winning is important for both
genders. Quantity is important and big is beautiful. In a feminine
society, the genders are emotionally closer. Competing is not so openly
endorsed, and there is sympathy for the underdog."
Alright, we're done with the theory for today, let us move to your favorite comparison of Japan, Poland and Canada in terms of this dimension.
Well as we can clearly see the Japan proves to score really high relative to other countries in Masculinity. It means that men tend to be the "bread-winner" and women tend to take care of the family and households. What is interesting, many Japanese women are responsible for finances of the house and give pocket money to husbands, which is quite counterintuitive regarding this index. Men also are expected not to show so much emotions and be solely focused on their jobs or generally speaking success. It is not uncommon to do extra hours, even when the family is waiting at home.
Poland and Canada scores more or less in the middle, which is a healthy balance of both of the worlds. Women can and tend seek employment and chase their careers, while still having a choice to become a stay-at-home mom. In Canada we can even see a trend of men becoming stay-at-home dads! Not many people would accept staying more than it is expected at work. In relationships people tend to show their emotional site and are more intimate with each other, they share their feelings despite their gender.
What do you think is a better side of the spectrum?
Over and out.
An interesting publication. I thought the first image was you. I later realized it was merely your head affixed to the body of Andrew Tate. Regardless of my confusion, the post is astute.
OdpowiedzUsuńAs my fellow classmate Hayden mentioned, I thought that was you next to that car. AI is really getting out of hand, huh..
OdpowiedzUsuńBut yeah, interesting post as always!!
